Axelera, the competitive cluster, brings its international deployment to fruition at the trade show, Pollutec Horizons

from 27 - 30 November 2007 in Paris-Nord-Villepinte - On this occasion, this globally-oriented competitiveness cluster, Lyon and Rhône-Alpes Chemicals and Environment, will sign a partnership agreement with a cluster of European dimensions. Axelera will present the results of an international benchmark study on chemistry and/or environment clusters and specify its strategies for development at international level. Members of Axelera Central Office, those behind its original and recognised positioning, 'Chemistry and Environment', will share their expertise in a series of conferences on Sustainable chemistry.

In two years of existence, Axelera has obtained € 45 million in funding for R&D projects involving 90 actors
Lyon, 12 July 2007 – Since being named an international competitiveness cluster in July 2005, Axelera (Chemicals-Environment, Lyon and Rhône-Alps) has secured funding for four research and development projects worth € 45 million. These four projects already involve some 90 actors. Axelera is thus pursuing its mission of developing joint projects that unite resources to stimulate innovation.

A new governing body that advances the cluster's goal "Combining Chemistry and Environmental Science"
Lyon, 10 April 2007 – At its meeting on 5 April 2007, the board of directors named the new executive committee of the international competitiveness cluster Axelera "Chemistry - Environment, Lyon & Rhône-Alps". The cluster is acting on its motto, "Combining Chemistry and Environmental Science" by promoting to the chairmanship the Environment, which succeeds Chemistry.

Axelera, the chemicals-environment competitiveness cluster at the Pollutec exhibition: a turning point for its international development, Axelera, Lyon and Rhône-Alpes chemicals-environment competitiveness cluster, is at the Pollutec exhibition in its second year of operation. This indispensable meeting of all French and international players allows Axelera to reinforce its already strong foothold both regionally and nationally, and also to launch its international development programme.

Axelera (global competitiveness cluster for chemicals/environment) has a positive outlook after its first year of operation.
One year after its inauguration, Axelera, set even loftier goals for its strategy and rank on the international stage. There are currently 6 technological projects proposed for 2006, representing 70 million euros. Two of these projects have already been approved and financed by the Ministry of Industry.

The Directorate General of the European Commission will meet with the Lyon and Rhône Alpes chemical-environmental competitiveness cluster, Axelera, in Grand Lyon next February 15 and 16, to learn more about its initiatives and objectives.

Yves Chauvin, winner of a Nobel Prize for Chemistry for his work on catalysis, which is the basis for AXELERA’s axes of development

Yves Chauvin, winner of a Nobel Prize for Chemistry for his work on catalysis, which is the basis for AXELERA’s axes of development, the Lyon and Rhône-Alpes chemicals-environment competitiveness cluster, and Grand Lyon are delighted with the award granted by the Nobel Foundation to Yves Chauvin of France. The former director of research at IFP, he is now the Director Emeritus at the Surface organic chemistry research laboratory, a shared research unit of CNRS and CPE, the former school of industrial chemistry in Lyon, where he was a student in the fifties.

The “Lyon and Rhône-Alpes Chemicals-Environment” project has obtained the competitiveness cluster label
The “Lyon and Rhône-Alpes Chemicals-Environment” project supported by the founding members of Axelera (RHODIA, ARKEMA, SUEZ, IFP and CNRS) obtained the status of competitiveness cluster granted by CIADT (Inter-ministerial Planning Committee).

Creation of AXELERA, the founding association of the “Lyon and Rhône-Alpes Chemicals and Environment” competitiveness cluster project
The participants in the “Lyon and Rhône-Alpes Chemicals and Environment” competitiveness cluster project structured their organization around a Law 1901 association, called AXELERA. This association, whose three core values are “Industry, research and training”, aims to accelerate the chemicals industry’s shift towards the integration of environmental concerns right from the start of designing processes and products. The by-laws implemented by AXELERA, the governance framework and the project treatment process are crucial for the establishment of partnerships. Ad hoc appointments have been made for the majority of the association’s leading roles.

Arkema, Rhodia, Suez, CNRS and IFP have committed to the competitiveness cluster project “Lyon Rhône-Alpes chemical-environmental”
The two major French chemical companies, Arkema and Rhodia, have joined with Suez, a major environmental player, as well as CNRS and IFP, to reinforce leadership in the chemical and environmental industries in the Rhône-Alpes region and increase their international stature.
